Position Overview
The Bulk Utility Unloader is responsible for safely and efficiently unloading bulk materials from railcars, trucks, or other bulk containers and supporting material handling operations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining production flow by ensuring raw materials are unloaded accurately, stored properly, and available for downstream processes. The position requires strong attention to safety, equipment operation, and teamwork in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely unload bulk materials from railcars, trucks, or bulk containers using approved unloading systems and procedures.
- Set up, operate, and monitor conveyors, augers, vacuums, blowers, or gravity‑fed systems during unloading.
- Open, close, connect, and disconnect valves, hoses, and fittings to control material flow.
- Verify correct materials and quantities against shipping documents.
- Inspect incoming materials for damage, contamination, or quality issues and report concerns immediately.
- Prevent spills, product loss, and cross‑contamination during unloading operations.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report mechanical or safety issues to maintenance or supervision.
- Follow all safety requirements including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, and PPE usage.
- Maintain accurate unloading logs, checklists, and documentation as required.
- Keep unloading areas, pits, and surrounding workspaces clean and orderly.
- Assist with material movement, storage, or other utility tasks as needed.
- Work collaboratively with operations, shipping, and maintenance teams to support production needs.
- Comply with company policies, food/feed safety (if applicable), and regulatory requirements.
The Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Willingness to work overtime to support a continuous operation as needed to meet business obligations.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Manufacturing experience is preferable.
Preferred Experience
- Forklift experience preferred or willing to be trained for certification.
- Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial facility, formulations and/or packaging.
