Position Overview

Reporting to the department manager, the laboratory supervisor will:

  • Safely and effectively lead a laboratory team in supporting their production partners
  • Drive continual improvement efforts in safety, quality, and productivity
  • Achieve results utilizing leadership skills, teamwork, employee development, and personal proficiency

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead Quality Control laboratory team in performing work compliantly with safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Partner with production to support day-to-day operations and to successfully produce products
  • Oversee and perform laboratory testing, which may include HPLC, GC, LC-MSMS, UV-Vis, FTIR, pH meter, viscometer, emulsion stability testing equipment, etc.
  • Conduct analytical testing and batch calculations utilizing mathematical acuity, in support of production and process development
  • Manage SAP system for laboratory and oversee product release
  • Assist with the set-up of new or modified product specifications
  • Manage maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate results are generated
  • Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Create and revise SOP’s and analytical test methods
  • Assist in training of peers in analytical techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and laboratory practices
  • Effectively implement company policies

The Qualifications

The right candidate will be a safety-focused, motivated individual who can work both independently and as a team.  Required qualifications include:

  • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related science
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Experience with HPLC, titration, and chemical and physical testing techniques
  • Instrument troubleshooting and maintenance experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated mathematical acuity
  • Proficient with MS Excel and Word
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to support a continuous operation, as needed to meet business obligations

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working in a laboratory that supports a production / manufacturing team
  • Experience with GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, LC-MSMS
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practices
  • Experience with SAP
